This is the cover of a young teenager’s book called Wonder. The illustrator of this novel is Tad Carpenter, whose illustration work I’ve enjoyed from previous books, such as the children’s book Zoom Zoom. What really caught my eye about this design was the handwritten design of the title. The curve of the shape around the eye of the child and the thick, bold letters – and the way they are so carefully drawn – really interests me. I think this in particular is the type of design that I aiming to achieve with my typography work.

Inspiration: typography and branding
I decided to next look at inspiration with brands that were popular. I particularly liked the Mossimo design because of the scribbled feel, and the thick block lines used. I also liked the Fender design for this reason, though I would possibly try it in another colour aside from black.
Inspiration for typography
These are some typography designs that I really liked the look of. Although they aren’t necessarily similar, I liked different aspects of them, such as the handwriting aspects of some of the designs. For example, I really liked the blocked, thick swirly lines of the Drop Type.
Again, although there aren’t many similarities between these font types, I really enjoyed looking at them and I feel like they can and will provide me with a lot of inspiration for my typography.
