To continue my research, I decided to look more into different types of handwritten typography, as I have noticed that I tend to find the most inspiration with material that focuses on handwritten design. This is especially the type of typography that I am interested in and the sort of design that I aim to achieve with my final work.
I really liked this type of font, which is called ‘Norffo.’ The idea of using watercolours to make the long sweeping motions really appealed to me. The shape of the letters is very interesting and I would like to take this type of calligraphy further into my work. Another example of this font in use is found below.
As well as watercolour style fonts, I looked for inspiration with typography that uses other tools such as pencils or crayon.
The font used in this poster again really appeals to me. The use of serif font whilst still being handwritten is especially interesting. The emphasis of white against the sky blue of the poster also stands out and catches my eye, which I think is something to consider.
This scrawled font, as well as the use of ink substance to make the font, stood out for me when I was researching this design. The font is actually the actor Josh Brolin’s (pictured here in the poster), which I find fascinating. The use of black thick font against the grey cloudy background is part of the appeal of this. I think because of this I will be focusing on using handwritten font in my design work, but with a twist that makes it stand out.
